1) What is your name?
2) How long have you been on Footstock, how did you hear about it and what is your Footstock related background?
I have been on Footstock since the very beginning and joined during the Indiegogo campaign. I heard about Footstock through twitter and there were a few Football Index people tweeting about it at the time. I think Danilo tweeted a question and answers with Till and it got me very excited and intrigued. This is what I had been waiting for after many years of FPL and FUT. I have been entering FPL teams for fun for the last 10 years and I started FIFA Ultimate Team in 2011 I believe. From the first day I played FUT I was hooked and I used to enjoy the early access where you could open a few bonus packs and start trading. I would sell all the first cards from the initial packs and start building a bronze team so I was ready to go when you could start playing matches. The first few weeks the prices were always really high so you could get good money for average players.
I played Football Manager for many years and would always start off managing my home team Grimsby Town and see how far I could get with them. It’s always good winning the Champions League with your hometown club because let's face it it ain’t happening anytime soon. I have been a big football better over the years but don’t really have anything to show for it. I also dabbled in DraftKings but that never took off for me. I collected football stickers as a youngster and was a massive fan of the big head Promatch cards. I remember Dwight Yorke at Aston Villa was a beast and the best card to have.
3) What is your portfolio size?
My Portfolio is currently worth just over £200 but that is changing hourly at the minute with the new feature now allowing you to see your portfolio worth. Another great feature that was implemented after the Footstock team listened to their community. My portfolio is a mix bag across the board. I tend to just have 1 of the bigger players and multiples of 1 and 2 star cards. I started with £45 from the beginning so I think I have done well so far.
4) What is your portfolio structure?
The players I currently hold the most of are
Lys Mousset (6)
Andy Carrol (6)
I hold a real mix of players and I initially just went down the list and thought ohh ”I’ll have him, and him”. I just kept buying and buying the players I thought were good players and I went for the cheaper players first. My portfolio is now very mixed with all the star ratings but geared more towards the 1 and 2 star players for tournaments.
5) What is your strategy?
My current strategy is to focus on the free and beginner tournaments. I haven’t got too much money invested at the moment so I want to focus on the smaller tournaments and build up to the bigger tournaments. I also like looking for value on the market and there is always so much value. This is where my years of FUT helps me out. I buy a lot of the fringe players not currently playing every game but have the potential to be very good footballers and either break into the first team at their current club or move onto another.
6) What do you like about Footstock?
I was drawn to Footstock because it is a combination of all the things I mentioned above. It’s like starting a sticker or Promatch football card collection and then importing that collection into FIFA Ultimate Team where you can trade your cards but you can also play against other players the way you used to with the Promatch cards. You can use your cards to play roulette against the house or against other users and it can be a real buzz entering your card and waiting for the opponent card to show up. It’s such a good feeling when you win, especially if the card you have won is much better value than your card.
I also like that I can play the long game and build up a collection that increases in value as a whole rather than buying a card for a specific gameweek hoping the player scores so I can get a dividend. Playing in the tournaments is also one of my favourite things to do as you can use your cards over and over again and when you need to free up some cash you can just sell a card. The main point I want to get across is that there is so much to do in Footstock you can never get bored.
7) Which players do you presently think are the best value and why?
Top 3 - 5 players that you think would make the most money on over the next three months and how many you hold of each?
Xherdan Shaqiri (10)
This guy can be quality on his day and is always a goal threat. When he scores he scores worldies. He is currently very cheap and surely he will move on from Liverpool soon. The only way he is breaking into that team is through a couple of injuries.
Riyad Mahrez (1)
Mahrez seems very cheap. At the time of writing you can buy him for just over £3 from the market and he is always a goal threat when he plays and can play the killer pass for assists. The only thing that lets him down is squad rotation.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2)
This guy can be bought for just under £8 and come on that is a steal! Easily one of Arsenal's best players and gets most of the goals. A goal gets you 20 points in a tournament. See where I am going here? We may also see a rejuvenated Arsenal with Emery gone.
8) What advice would you give a new trader?
The first thing I would say is read the rules and terms & conditions to make sure you know how everything works. Then I would join the slack community. It is a great community full of nice people who are always happy to help. It is also the perfect place to discuss all things Footstock and it's always the first place you hear about things. Read as many of the meet the manager articles you can and just take it all in. Everyone has different strategies, thoughts and interests relating to Footstock.
Start small and don’t rush into buying the bigger players. There is so much value in buying the cheaper players especially if you think they are going to break into the first team. Focus on the free and beginner tournaments and work your way up to the bigger tournaments. Don’t be pulled in by the huge pots in the pro tournaments and only bet what you can afford to lose to begin with.
9) What has been your best/favourite roulette win or swap?
I have been very lucky with roulette and my favourite roulette win was Son. At the time he was about £16 on the market and I sold him to add funds for cheaper players. Another good win for me was winning Aguero off Josh Murphy and absolutely battering him on corners. I also won Salah from Josh Murphy when Salah was the king of Footstock. Josh Murphy used to be a beast.
10) What are you most looking forward to about Footstock?
The world of Footstock is just beginning and I am looking forward to the user base growing to make it a big part in the football betting industry. I am hoping more tournament options become available and the pots increase. I am also looking forward to the expansion into other leagues.
